Taryn A Hecker

Taryn A. Hecker opened Taryn A. Hecker Photography in February 2009 after retiring early (like so many of her media colleagues) from the newspaper business. Her Athol studio is located inside her grandmother's craft store, Square Granny's.
 
A 1997 graduate of Lakeland High, Taryn studied journalism and photography at North Idaho College. She started her professional career as a reporter for The Coeur d’Alene Press and spent nearly 8 years working as a reporter at The Spokesman-Review’s North Idaho bureau where she specialized in investigative reporting and coverage of the criminal justice system. Her award-winning reporting included coverage of the state and federal cases against serial killer Joseph Duncan.
 
Taryn’s favorite part of her job was covering community news – sharing the stories of the people and places of North Idaho. Though she has shifted her focus to photography, Taryn is still working to capture and share the essence of North Idaho through words and images.
 
Her work has most recently appeared in The Inlander, Inland Business Catalyst and The River Journal. She is working on her first novel, “Hold Your Tongue and Say Athol.” 
 
Taryn specializes in portraits of infants, children, seniors, pets and families. She also offers wedding and event photography, commercial photography, real estate property shots, editorial photography and does location work.
 
Taryn lives with her two children, Bailey and Faith, in Twin Lakes, Idaho. She is a member of the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Athol American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, Taryn enjoys exploring North Idaho, fishing for big ones, painting and cooking.
